The Sandhu Charitable Foundation donates £2,000 to Chess in Schools & Communities (“CSC”).
CSC believes chess is an effective and affordable educational intervention, which promotes key academic and social skills that children will use throughout their lives, not just in childhood. The game helps them to think not only logically and solve problems, but it develops sportsmanship and resilience. It also teaches children to plan ahead and take responsibility for their actions.
Chess is open to anyone regardless of gender, ethnicity, faith or disability. It has also been positively linked with academic performance – however, it has all but disappeared from state schools and especially from deprived areas. This is exactly where it can have the most benefit.

Blood Cancer UK recently announced 12 innovative pilot projects that they funded this year. One of those was Dr. Blunt’s Project – “Using the Immune System to develop a new treatment for non-Hodgkin Lymphoma”. This new scheme gives researchers the opportunity to test original ideas and generate early data to, hopefully, unlock future funding.
